The Economic Development for the City of Staunton says that what is attracting the economy to bloom in Staunton is the location, logistics and labour. The easy accessibility to two interstate highways, along with air and rail commuting facilities, has caused businesses to flourish. Now, Staunton is just a few hours away from Washington DC, Richmond and Norfolk.

TRANSPORTATION
Staunton is considered a transportation hub as it offers advanced access to rail, highway and air. Staunton’s ground transportation network includes major highways like Interstate 81, Interstate 64, Route 250 and Route 11. A full host of freight logistic companies also service the area.

With Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport being just 20 minutes away, there is commercial air service with United. Charlottesville Albemarle Airport, a 45-minute drive from Staunton, offers service with US Airways, United, Delta, and American Airlines. Air service is also provided by Dulles International Airport (2.5 hours), as well as Richmond and Roanoke (1.5 hours).


Downtown Staunton is served by Amtrak lines including the Cardinal line (New York – Washington, DC – Cincinnati – Indianapolis – Chicago) and the Crescent line (New York – Atlanta – New Orleans). Staunton and the surrounding area also have an extensive public transportation system offering trolley and shuttle service throughout the region.



EDUCATION
Staunton is the heart of Virginia’s education and technology corridor; it is home to 16 public and 3 private K-12 schools, plus 11 colleges and universities within 35 minutes. Expansion Magazine has named Staunton’s public Schools a “Gold Medal School System,” and ranked them among the top 15% in the nation. Staunton city school system meets all requirements of No Child Left Behind. 

HEALTHCARE

Thomson Reuters ranked Augusta Health amongst its 100 Top Hospital and among the top 5% of U.S. hospitals for patient safety and clinical excellence by HealthGrades. Augusta Health is reputed for its advanced programs in researching cancer and is considered one of the finest community hospitals in America.

UVA Health System, located 45 minutes away, includes a 570-bed Magnet hospital, level I trauma center, nationally recognized cancer and health centres and children’s hospital, and primary and specialty clinics throughout Central Virginia. UVA Health staff has been recognized for excellence by publications like U.S. News & World Report, Best Doctors in America, America’s Top Doctors and more.
